Thursday morning I woke up and decided that between my sprained wrist and pounding headache I wouldn't go to class that day. Who knew being lazy could have possibly saved my life? It's kinda funny how I found out what happened, my dad called me and asked was I alright and did I hear about the shooting. Shooting?! What shooting?!....................
The entire campus was in shock, people were running around trying desperately to get cell phones to work and call home to tell their parents that they were alive and well, trying to get in touch with friends around campus to make sure that they were well....some would never answer those desperate calls.
In the last few minutes of an afternoon geology class, a masked gunman walked onto the stage of a Cole Hall lecture hall and opened fire on the students and professor there. He killed five people, wounded 22 and then killed himself. All in the space of a few minutes he ended the lives of five people, five students, five huskies. We at NIU are still reeling in shock, grieving and praying. We have taken a staggering blow but we will overcome, We are NIU Huskies.
